Movie Review – The Huntsman: Winter’s War
The evil Queen Ravenna discovers that Freya, her younger sister who has no powers of her own, is having an affair with nobleman and is pregnant with his child. After Frey gives birth to a daughter, who is murdered in her crib. Freya stricken with grief and rage, kills who she thinks is responsible and her powers of ice queen erupt.
Freya leaves her sister and builds a new kingdom as the Snow Queen. She kidnaps children to train in her arm and become her huntsmen.
Even though Eric, played by Chris Hemsworth, destroyed Ravenna–she manages a unique escape and returns for a bit in this movie.
I can’t say more without giving away the movie. The biggest thing for me was the movie not being clear if Snow White was the Snow Queen’s baby or not. And if yes, not giving that resolution to the Snow Queen. Also, I thought Raveena was a bit too easy to kill this time around. I’d have liked a bit more battle and struggle.
Overall though, a good movie and loved the tongue-n-cheek dialogue of Eric and his devil-may-care attitude through the movie. Really liked the powerful female characters like the Snow Queen and Sara.
My rating 4.0 out of 5
Andrea R. Cooper writes fantasy, paranormal, historical and romantic suspense.
Her favorite childhood memories revolved around creating vibrant characters for her friends, and then acting out their adventures. Inside her fantasy worlds of darkened forests, dragon-filled glades, and iced islands, nothing was banned. From the ethereal Elvin to the most maligned Vampires, all were welcome in her fictional realities, a stark contrast to her home, where the magical and mythical was forbidden.
