Now, welcome Lisa Chalmers

1) What genre(s) do you write in? Why?

I write a wide mix, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, contemporary romance, young adult, romantic suspense. I do tend to drift more towards stories with paranormal elements lately, I love the freedom of the genre, anything is really possible. If the muse can dream it up, it can be.

2) What/Who inspired you to start writing?

I think it was when I read Jude Deveraux’s book Remembrance and realized that not everyone had stories going in their head all the time. That was when I first started putting them down on paper.

3) Is there a book or two that you wrote and love that’s not published? If so, tell us more. Or tells us about your current WIP.

There are two that fit that description. The first one is YOU WERE MINE. I wrote the original manuscript 13 or 14 years ago now and I’ve tended to rewrite parts of it over the years. If you’ve ever heard the song by the Dixie Chicks, that’s the inspiration behind the story. I actually got the idea at their concert. It’s about a husband and wife who are separated but still in love with each other.

The other one has the working title of Sabrina, about a twenty-something in Vegas who finds herself faced with a rather unexpected birthday gift. It’s a really fun story and several of my critique partners over the years have loved it. Hopefully I can get the last half of the story to fall into place this year so I can release it.

My current WIP is the last round of revisions of DARK INTENT, which should be out by Spring.  Vengeance demon Arabella Hayes never thought astral projecting was dangerous, until it puts her at the scene of a grisly attack in progress. When her silent scream isn’t so silent, she finds herself stalked by the frightening entity with glowing red eyes, and an agenda she could never imagine. Half demon, demon hunter Ryder McKinnon hides out in the open – all the better to keep those who hunt him at bay. But when a beautiful vengeance demon asks for his help against the mysterious shadow that’s stalking her Ryder finds himself on the trail of an old familiar enemy filled with DARK INTENT.

4) Who would play your characters in a movie?

For IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES, this kinda changes every once in awhile. For Gabriel, I’d pick Donnie Wahlberg. If you’ve ever seen the ‘Summertime’ video by NKOTB, that’s basically the look of Gabriel when they’re in the white outfits. For Josh and Avery, Chris Hemsworth sort of has the look I’ve always envisioned for Josh. Avery, I just saw an episode of Once Upon A Time and Joanna Garcia Swisher might fit her.

5) What writers/books inspired you?

I’d have to say Danielle Steel and Jude Deveraux. When I was a young teenager I went through every Danielle Steel book I could find. Then I found Jude Deveraux’s books. I still love A KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR. It was her book REMEMBRANCE that made me realize not everyone had stories in their heads.

6) When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?

I guess I kinda answered that above, but the writing bug really hit in my late teens when I realized not everyone had stories going around in their heads all the time. I didn’t start submitting though till I was in my early 20s.

7) Any suggestions for would be writers?

Read a lot. Take workshops on everything and anything that interests you, you never know what will give you a great story idea. If an idea interests you, write it.

8) What makes a good story to you?

When you can tune everything else out and nothing matters about the characters and the story. The phone can ring and you can’t hear it.

9) Do you believe writers are born or made or both?

I think they’re born. Most writers I know seem to have a lot of similar traits: a love of reading, of words, and of office supplies J

10) Besides getting published, what was your awe moment?

Writing wise, getting my first 5* review. That was just wow, suddenly made all the revisions and drafts and headaches of the book worth it. Non writing wise, meeting my favorite band for the first time. I’d spent years listening to their music and writing to it and suddenly there they were. Plus getting a hug from someone I’d had a crush on since I was nine years old was pretty amazing.
